AIDS Combat Zone information disclosure
I spotted this on Genetics and Public Health Weblog and decided to include this information in my own blog. The National Institutes of Health suggests the following ten things to know about evaluating Medical Resources on the Web, and in the interest of making that information available to my readers, I am answering the ten questions here.
Who runs this site?
AIDS Combat Zone is run entirely by me, with help from European Correspondent Derek and Graphic Designer/Fiancée Whitney. I am a public health student at the University of South Florida, and I have four years of experience as a counselor, supervisor, and resource specialist on the Florida HIV/AIDS Hotline.
Who pays for the site?
This site is run using free software provided by Blogger. Derek and Whitney help out on a volunteer basis. A few months ago I put up some affiliate links to Amazon.com and Home Access, but those have brought in exactly $0 in revenue, so I may remove them or make them less prevalent. Also, I have placed a link to the order page for Derek's book The Feelings Inside so that readers can have the opportunity to check out his other projects. Revenue from sales of that book goes to Derek and his co-author Mary King.
What is the purpose of the site?
AIDS Combat Zone's purpose is to serve as an information resource for people interested in what's being done in the global fight against HIV and AIDS. We aim to make the information as easily accessible as possible through RSS, Atom, and E-Mail Syndication. We also encourage our readers to get involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in a way that suits their strengths and interests, and to protect themselves and their loved ones from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Where does the information come from?
The news articles featured here aggregated using Bloglines, and comes from a wide variety of sources including Google News, Yahoo News, Topix, All Africa, AEGiS, Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, the Integrated Regional Information Networks, and reader suggestions. News gathered from these sources will always include a link to the originating article. I often include background information, facts, and statistics from other sources including my own knowledge and experience. This information includes a link to the source whenever possible.
What is the basis of the information?
As stated above, I include links to source materials whenever possible.
How is the information selected?
Information is selected based upon itsrelevancee to the global fight against HIV/AIDS and global affairs. I regret that I am unable to include all newsworthy items due to limited time and resources.
How current is the information?
News articles included on AIDS Combat Zone are typically less than one week old. Statistics and other information may be up to several years old, depending on the source.
How does the site choose links to other sites?
The sites I link to from AIDS Combat Zone are the sites I myself read and count on for current information. Sites are periodically reviewed and will be deleted if they are no longer being updated regularly or if the quality of their content drops substantially.
